FROM WASTE TO RAW MATERIAL

Almost already from the beginning in 2009, Alina Schürfeld has integrated Salmon Leathers into her designs. She was inspired by the idea of adding extra value to a former waste product that was discarded from the processing fish industry. The leather is obtained from a German based tannery that is utilizing a 100% chrome-free tanning process. This process ensures that the natural and unique structure of the salmon skin is preserved. The sustainable approach already begins with the breeding of the salmons; they are raised in certified organic farms in Ireland that are in compilance with animal welfare standards. Additionally, Salmon Leather – made in Germany – is a great alternative to exotic skins.
